Yiannis Kalpouzos

Yiannis Kalpouzos was born in 1960 in the village of Melates, Arta, Greece. Since 1983, he has lived permanently in Athens.

He is the author of eleven novels: Imaret, Saos, Saints and Demons, Skystone, Everything I Love Is Yours, Rayas, Serra, Ginati, Eran, Kalderimi, and The Drunkard. Imaret has also been adapted into a young adult novel (for readers aged 10 and above), featuring illustrations by the set designer Antonis Chalkias.

He has also published three poetry collections, which, together with fifty new poems, are included in the volume YIANNIS KALPOUZOS: POETRY 2000–2017. In addition, he has written the short story collection Some Never Forget and lyrics for 80 songs, many of which became major hits, including Everything I Love Is Yours, If You Were the Sea, What Has Wronged Me, What Have I Lost, Ten Witches, and Because I Loved You So Much.

His ballad The Wolf, included in the short story collection, received an award at the International Poetry and Short Story Competition of the University of Palermo, Italy.

His novel Serra received the First Prize for a Novel on Asia Minor Themes for the period 2016–2018 and has been translated into Albanian.

His novels Ginati and Eran received the Public Bookstores Book Awards in 2019 and 2021, respectively.

His novel Imaret received the Readers' Award from the National Book Centre of Greece in 2009. It has been translated into Polish, Turkish, Arabic, English (by a Greek publishing house), and Albanian.

Finally, Yiannis Kalpouzos adapted his novel Serra – The Soul of Pontus into a theatrical monologue.
