The Olympic Games have become associated with the Panathenaic stadium in Athens since it was there that the first modern Olympic Games were revived in 1896 with great splendour. Since then and up to the Intermediary Olympic Games in 1906 and even to the present day, it could be said that the Panathenaic stadium is the place where the heart of Athens beats, a place where Athenians frequently garther to share some of the city's great moments.

Η Αριστέα Παπανικολάου-Κρίστενσεν γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα το 1936. Είναι πτυχιούχος του Ιστορικού και Αρχαιολογικού τμήματος της Φιλοσοφικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών και του τμήματος Κλασικής Αρχαιολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου της Κοπεγχάγης. Μεταξύ των ετών 1960-63 παρακολούθησε στο Παρίσι μεταπτυχιακά μαθήματα και σεμινάρια αρχαιολογίας στην Faculte des Lettres et Sciences Humaines και στην Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes. Ως επιστημονική βοηθός στο τμήμα των κλασικών αρχαιοτήτων του Εθνικού Μουσείου στην Κοπεγχάγη, δημοσίευσε: Les Poteries Hellenistiques, Hama, III 2, 1973 και Les ceramiques et byzantines, Hama, III 3, 1986. Από το 1978 ασχολείται με την έρευνα των αρχείων της Δανίας, με σκοπό τη συγκέντρωση στοιχείων σχετικά με τον ελληνικό χώρο τον 19ο αιώνα και με επίκεντρο την οθωνική περίοδο, 1833-1862 (Λυτ, Χρ., "Μια Δανέζα στην Αυλή του Όθωνα", Αθήνα 1818-1853, "Έργα Δανών Καλλιτεχνών", Λυτ, Xρ., "Στην Αθήνα του 1847-1848").
